Spanish Bayonet White Yucca Flowers

Spanish Bayonet Postcard by abitosunshine
Enjoy rainy day views of the various stages of a flowering yucca plant, but do beware the tips of greenery on this Spanish Bayonet.

Walking with my dog on a typical north Florida rainy day I found the yuccas in their spring bloom throughout the neighborhood. One particular plant grouping was most impressive as its white Yucca flowers were in various stages of development all at once.

An up-close view shows the plant's flowers white with a bit of purple bleeding through and quite fragrant too. When gazing at this floral beauty its softness belies the prickly tips of the yucca's green leafage.

Do not be fooled into getting close to those bayonet-like spikes — ouch! Even my dog Valentino knows to steer clear of this Spanish Bayonet.

Seeing Red Florida Flower Power

A mid-morning walk with my dog here in the Florida Panhandle had me seeing red, mostly wild flowers growing out of the sandy scrub soil amid forest greenery.

Red is a powerful color that evokes a variety of strong emotions. Of late, I find myself in a mindset that welcomes the intensity of red flower power. My feelings run the gamut from excitement to agitation and on to the ever-present power of love.

Click the pictures for a larger bright red view.

As you can see, even my dog Valentino enjoyed the adventurous hunt for red flowers. He sniffed for bunny rabbits in the bushes as he rushed me from one natural display of red to the next. Naturally, we had to stop to admire the red beauty of the Bottlebrush Tree and its determined spirit.

A lovingly tended floral display in a neighboring front yard produced a brilliant red rose. But of course, that led us to the power of love!

What do you feel when you see red?

Travel Homeward Bound

Homeward Bound
I have traveled far and wide across the miles of many of these United States, staking claim to houses to call 'Home' in several of them, some more than once. Yes, when homeward bound, I seem to veer toward directions of familiar places.

Ruthi Arriving in Ohio 1999
Buckeye born and bred in the state of Ohio, with the bulk of my family still residing there, I find myself drawn back on occasion. I first left Ohio at the age of 15 and have returned to live there twice as an adult, at times when life-changing events had me feeling that old familial need.

Ruth & Tidbit Arrive in Florida 2013
The sunny state of Florida has always felt like a second home to me. It is where my Mom lay buried. It is where I gave birth to my son.

My life travels have led me away from, then back to, Florida a couple of times. It is where I now live.

Here, I lost my dog Tidbit--my best friend and gift of true love from the Universe. I no longer enjoy this place where I shared the last year and a half of Tidbit's life. Its tropical beauty means nothing without her by my side.

Again, I find that feeling of heart discontent and the mind ponders a rightful place to call home. It has been a tough year. (And it isn't over yet!)

Skip Hunt Go West

Homeward Bound Choices

  • Ohio: Take me home to those country roads of familiarity and family and friend.
  • Florida: Stay planted where I am and learn to live it and love it.
  • North, East, South, or... Go West!

I turned sixty this year ... Yes, 60! I wonder whether I am ready to head home to the land of my birth for the last time, full circle. I wonder, is it truth that home is where the heart is. I wonder too, do I have enough energy and years left for another incredible journey? I guess time will tell me the answers to my pondering.

Santa Not Delivering Gifts in Christmas Boat

I was so looking forward to my plans this evening to attend Holiday on the Harbor here in my hometown of Carrabelle, Florida, along the Gulf of Mexico. However, Santa Delivering Gifts in Christmas Boat will not be happening today!

Plans Change Along With Weather Report

Carrabelle Chamber of Commerce says:

"Just got another report in and the front is moving North Eastward with solid rain through midnight and wind gusts could be up to 50 miles an hour. We are making the decision for safety reasons for the boats/crew and visitors. The Parade is rescheduled for tomorrow-Sunday at 6:30 pm. The weather looks fine for tomorrow. Please spread the word. We will keep you updated with info. We apologize and are sorry for the inconvenience to anyone, but safety comes first."

Carrabelle Florida Christmas Boat Parade Rescheduled

"The Fireworks will be a go for tomorrow night (Sunday) after the Boat Parade! Holiday on the Harbor will start at 5 pm on Marine Street and the Boat Parade will start around 6:30 on the River!"

Woof It Up In Florida Postcards

Tidbit barked orders for a postcard...

My girl got her own postcards!

Since I am a postcard collector I design my own Sunshine and Poetry Postcards to send to friends and family. Tidbit left a few canine pals behind when we moved from Ohio to Florida this Spring, so she now has a postcard to send to her doggie friends.

Does your dog have a postcard?

Moving To Florida On My Mind

Moving to Florida on my mind...
Yes! I am moving to Florida!
Back to Florida, I should say...

My family moved from Ohio to Florida when I was fifteen. Back then, not a move I wanted to make. Teenagers don't generally like moving away from friends. It didn't take me long at all to welcome the Sunshine State into my spirit, where it has remained throughout my life.

I resided in south Florida for twenty-plus years. I would wander through a few moves through quite a few states, ending up back in the state of my youth, Ohio, when I left a domestic violence marriage. Now, ten years later and pretty much recovered, an opportunity has arisen to relocate back to the Sunshine State and I am ready to...
