Happy Halloween Wordless Wednesday

It is the day after a happy Halloween. (2017) I shared this fright night at work and at play with friends.

Now on a not-so-Wordless Wednesday I share a few images captured for you ... BOO!

We three kitchen witches were having a wee bit of fun making devilishly delicious pizzas and subs for our guests.

But of course, there was a friendly fellow in our midst too. I guess it would be unkind of me not to share a picture including him too, though I must say he is undeserving of the inclusion as he did not even bother to dress for the occasion. Oh, look, he's rather ghoulish naturally!

I was scheduled out the work door first and was happy to get home in time to enjoy some of the youngsters begging trick-or-treat. But first, I had to get into my own costume and walk my dog Valentino.

While Valentino would have nothing to do with dressing up for the night, I love my costume. I designed it as part of my own fall wardrobe. And you can bet I will wear my Witchy Woman Sweatshirt and purple leggings throughout fall and winter.

My dog Valentino had the bejabbers scared out of him on Halloween night! When this hairy spider jumped up in the air so did Valentino! I cannot tell a lie ... So did I!

Front Porch Intruder Alert

Hearing my dog wildly barking I peeked out the window, wondering who or what I might see.

A cat went running across the porch, down the front steps, and on down the street. Yes, that cat went scat when he heard my dog Valentino. My dog has little tolerance for the many stray cats in the neighborhood.

I leashed my boy up, opened the front door, and what did I see? In the corner crouched a small squirrel, apparently hiding behind the broom on the porch. Thankfully, my dog has little interest in squirrels, this one included. Actually, he was too busy trying to find that cat!

Nonetheless, I took the dog for a walk and upon our return the squirrel was gone. No more squirrel, no more cat, dog has taken care of business... Now I can return to my computer work and play for the day!

When it comes to "his front porch" my dog Valentino is the best intruder alert system around. However, it does not hurt to have a security camera system in place too, for when my dog and I are out and about.

Volunteer Plants Produce Pumpkins

Yes! Valentino found another pumpkin in a patch!

My dog Valentino has a nose for the scent of pumpkin fruit on a vine. As we wander around the neighborhood on our dog walks he is quick to show me his nose knows where the good stuff grows.

Along an alleyway the dog dragged me to a patch of grass with a motley looking vine I recognized as what I thought was a dying pumpkin patch. Sure enough, there was a wee pumpkin growing in its midst.

The owner of the house where Valentino discovered the pumpkin patch was in her yard. I commented to her how much my dog enjoys her pumpkins. She was rather tickled by his vegetarian-like hunting ability.

The woman told me these are volunteer pumpkins. She had not planted the seeds! But she is enjoying these pumpkins too.

The woman also asked me this question: "Did you know that when a vine produces a pumpkin all of the plant nutrients go straight to the fruit growing on the vine and oftentimes its flowers and leaves pretty much die away?"

I had no idea. I learned my something new on this day!

Labor of Love Lawn Chair Re-Webbing DIY

A few weeks ago I sat in my favorite lawn chair and my bottom fell through! Either I needed to lose some weight or the webbing gave way to the outdoor elements. (Probably both, but I'd like to think the latter!) I was so glad that there was not anyone around in the twilight hours to see me fall off my rocker!

This old chair is special in a few ways. It is a rocking lawn chair, one I rocked my woes away in quite a lot while living in a tent in the back yard of friends for a few months. When I upgraded to a home with a roommate, my friends Terry and Mark gave me the chair for my new back yard. This chair had spent twenty-five years at their home, one they had found at a yard sale ... quite a special gift to me!

My roommate Eric took it upon himself to order lawn furniture webbing and out of the blue one night he decided to tackle the DIY project of re-webbing my old chair. I stood by to hand him the screws and lend a hand in the repair of the chair, mostly in support of him taking on this labor of love, during the Labor Day weekend no less. Perhaps Eric is off his rocker too!

And, not to forget, my roomie has given me a special cup holder tray to hang on the side of my chair, found at a family member's yard sale.

While I enjoy a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) undertaking, it is really my roommate who loves a project. As Eric says, "I enjoy seeing the fruits of my labor."

Sunflowers Gift of the Sun

I find sunflowers the most beautiful of all flowers bestowed upon us by nature and its sun. The warm and welcoming colors of the sunflower are sure to brighten anyone's day.

Not long ago, I received a surprise gift package in the mail from a friend. Inside was the lovely Willow Tree Sunshine sculpture. My friend knows me well, knows sunflowers are my favorite, and she wanted me to have this angel of sunshine as an inspirational gift to get me through the rough days I was going through at that time in my life. She works!

On the worst of days, I pick the sculpture up and those sunflowers bring a smile to my face. On the best of days, a quick glance at my Sunshine has me thinking of my friend. The warmth of our friendship is ever-present.
