Happy Labor {of Love} Day Weekend

In reading The History of Labor Day, found on the United States Department of Labor website, I found the first sentence and the last sentence of the article its most meaningful.

The First: Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers.

The Last: It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pay tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership — the American worker.


A challenge to an American worker:

You have a huge heart. Use it to hug a heart. Wear that heart on your work shirt sleeve and use it to hug the heart of the unemployed. That will be your social and economic achievement to celebrate this weekend. You will be the living strength, freedom, and leadership of a...

For my friends in Australia, I found Labour Day in Australia. It seems we celebrate on different days, but for similar reasons. I find it interesting that different territories within Australia celebrate Labour Day on different dates of the year.
